Around 200 shipping workers subcontracted by Banha Engineering International Co, which provides shipment services for Egypt-based steelmaker Ezz Steel's Suez plant, went on strike on December 25, Tuesday, according to media reports. The workers are protesting against deteriorating safety conditions.

The strike resulted in the complete halt of all production activities at the Ezz Steel's Suez plant. Ezz Steel stated that the strike has nothing to do with the steelmaker, adding that the dispute was between Banha workers and their own management. According to Ezz Steel, the production was briefly halted and the issue will be resolved shortly by the Banha management.
