Severstal inks contracts with plantmakers to build new BF at Cherepovets

Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that it has signed contracts with Netherlands-based Danieli Corus BV, a subsidiary of the Italian plantmaker Danieli, Luxembourg-based plantmaker Paul Wurth and German-based engineering company TMT GmbH, for the construction of the new blast furnace (BF) No. 3 at its Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works.

The new blast furnace will have a design capacity of 2.9 million mt of pig iron per year and the total cost of the investment project is more than RUB 28 billion ($494.8 million). First equipment shipments are planned for the first quarter of 2019.
