Severstal Cherepovets, the main steel producing facility of Severstal Russian Steel, has announced that on October 27 it produced its one millionth mt of polymer coated steel.
Currently, Severstal Cherepovets continues the construction of its second polymer coating line, which is scheduled to be commissioned in June 2011. The annual production capacity of the second line will be similar to that of the plant's first polymer coating line, i.e., 200,000 mt, and will allow Severstal to increase its annual production capacity of polymer coated products to 400,000 mt.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, the construction of the second polymer coating line, with a total projected cost of Ruble 3 billion (about $99.2 million), was started at the end of 2007 but was frozen in autumn 2008 due to the global financial crisis, and was resumed in December 2009. The equipment for the second polymer coating line is being supplied by the German plantmaker SMS Siemag, previously SMS Demag.
