Swiss-based special steel producer and distributor Schmolz+Bickenbach has announced that it has opened a new warehouse for special steel products, with the main focus on tool steel, in Chongqing, China. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art sawing technologies and high-tech milling machines to provide customers with shorter delivery times and tailor-made cutting services for tool steels from the group's own production. The product portfolio of the new warehouse includes cold rolled and high-speed steel grades, steel for plastic molding and hot rolled steel from the company’s subsidiaries, namely, Germany-based Deutsche Edelstahlwerke and Chicago, US-based Finkl Steel.
With expanded sales and service capacities, Schmolz+Bickenbach is now also able to meet the needs of local Chinese companies in the automotive and plastic molding industries from a central location - the Chongqing-Chengdu area. According to Schmolz+Bickenbach, the Chongqing-Chengdu area represents between 10 percent and 15 percent of total Chinese tool steel demand.
