Sanctions imposed on Russian shareholders in Ukraine’s Zaporizhstal

On May 12, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree imposing sanctions on 41 entities that helped Russia maintain control over Ukraine-based Zaporizhstal steel mill.

According to the official statement, among several sanction packages that were imposed on Friday, May 12, the first sanctions package was for Zaporizhstal steel mill. More specifically, the decree introduced restrictions on 13 individuals and 28 legal entities which will be faced with confiscation procedure of Russian-held shares in the company.

Zaporizhstal is one of Ukraine's largest metallurgical enterprises and is nearly equally controlled by Metinvest Group and a group of investors affiliated with Russian-based legal entity VEB.RF State Development Corporation.
