Brazilian pellets producer Samarco, a 50/50 joint venture between Vale and BHP Billiton, expects to resume full production capacity by 2029.

The company resumed pellet output in mid-December and shall gradually increase capacity.

Samarco may reach full production capacity, which ranges about 22 to 24 million mt, by 2029, according to a company’s estimate.

Samarco halted operations in November 2015, following a deadly iron ore waste dam burst, which killed 19 people.

Samarco managed to produce 25 million mt of pellets in 2014, one year before the deadly dam burst.

Samarco expects to reach an annual output of 7-8 million mt/year.
