Germany-based steelmaker Salzgitter Group has announced that it has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with German energy supplier Friesen Elektra.

The power is to be sourced from the Sande Hybrid Energy Park that is currently being built in Lower Saxony, Germany. As from May 2024, a permanent supply of around 80 MW of green electricity from the new Sande Hybrid Energy Park that is already scheduled to go online at the beginning of 2024 has been secured for Salzgitter’s hydrogen-fueled green steel production.

Meanwhile, the already existing Sande Wind Farm of Friesen Elektra is currently being expanded with the aim of sourcing energy from wind turbines and photovoltaic systems. In the final stage of construction, the Sande Hybrid Energy Park will deliver an overall output in excess of 120 MW.
