Germany-based steelmaker Salzgitter Group has announced that it has started the overhaul works at its blast furnace A to secure production during the transformation phase within the context of the aim to produce low-carbon steel by 2033.
The overhaul with an investment of €100 million will last around 100 days.
“We are gradually abandoning the blast furnace route and have already started to install the process route for new aggregates such as the direct reduction plants and the electric arc furnaces. Accordingly, we will be decommissioning one of our blast furnaces as early as 2026,” Gerd Baresch, managing director at technology at Salzgitter Flachstahl, commented.
