India's state-owned steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has announced that it sold 1.06 million mt of finished steel products in May this year, registering year-on-year growth of 11 percent. In the given month, the company's finished steel exports increased by 76 percent year on year.

In May, SAIL's pig iron production amounted to 1.26 million mt, increasing by four percent compared to the same month of the previous year.

SAIL expects growth in India's infrastructure projects to translate into higher demand for steel in the country.
