Saarstahl’s new continuous caster to go into operation at end of 2019

Germany-based long steel producer Saarstahl has announced that construction work on its new continuous casting system has been running at full speed since November 2017. The project with a total investment of €100 million is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2019.

The new a five-strand continuous caster will cast 180 mm x 180 mm square billets with a capacity of approximately 180 mt per hour.

With this investment, Saarstahl said that it is strengthening its position in the business fields of spring steel, cold-heading wire and free-cutting steel; products which are primarily used in the automotive industry and in mechanical engineering.
