S. Korea, Japan drive China’s pig iron exports

China's pig iron exports outpaced the imports with 1.7 million tons against 75'200 tons through January – June 2005. The country exported 236'100 tons of pig iron only in June, while imported just 34'900 tons. 52'280 tons of China's imports in the first six months came from North Korea and 18'250 tons from Russian Federation. Meanwhile, China shipped 34.7 percent (593'600 tons) of its pig iron exports to South Korea and 34.6 percent (590'080 tons) to Japan. Thailand (170'400 tons), Australia (137'000 tons) and Malaysia (109'000 tons) were other major importers of the Chinese pig iron through January – June.
