RZhD limits transportation of coal, coke and steel to Far Eastern ports

Russian Railways (RZhD) has announced that due to the failure to fulfill the quota for unloading freight cars at Russia's Far Eastern ports, from December 10 it has introduced temporary limits on export transportation of coal, coke and steel products to the Far Eastern ports, in order "to avoid the wasteful idle of freight cars" and to solve the problem of congestion on eastbound railway lines.

RZhD has stated that starting from November this year the situation as regards the unloading of freight cars at Far Eastern ports has worsened. In December, the accumulation of "abandoned" rail cars on the railway network is continuing, and the rail infrastructure's throughput capacities have significantly decreased, thus posting "a threat to Russia's economic development," reads RZhD's statement.
