Russia-based iron ore and hot briquetted iron producer Metalloinvest has announced that it has inked a deal with local steel pipe producer OMK for the supply of pellets for steel production.

Within the scope of the deal, Metalloinvest will supply a total of about 53 million mt of direct reduction (DR) grade pellets with a high iron content and low silicon content to OMK for 15 years. This way, the Russian producer will fully meet OMK’s requirement for high-quality raw material.

“It will become an important milestone in the environmental transformation of the domestic metallurgy. Metalloinvest will bring to its partnership with OMK its unique long-term experience in using direct reduced iron production technology with a low carbon footprint,” Nazim Efendiev, chairman of Metalloinvest, said regarding the partnership.
