According to the preliminary output data of Russian steel producers issued by the Ministry for Economic Development of the Russian Federation, in January 2010, Novolipetsk Steel's (NLMK) main production site in Lipetsk saw a 64.3 percent increase in its finished steel output to 748,300 mt, MMK registered a rise of 39.6 percent to 751,000 mt, Severstal Cherepovets saw a 37.1 increase in finished steel output to 872,000 mt, Evraz's West-Siberian Steel Works (ZapSib) saw a rise of 21.1 percent to 470,000 mt, and Mechel's Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant registered a 20.7 percent increase in its finished steel production to 300,000 mt, all compared to January 2009.
On the other hand, in January 2010 some of the Russian steel producers registered decreases in their finished steel production compared to the same month last year. Specifically, Evraz's Novokuznetsk Iron and Steel Plant (NKMK) saw a decrease of 0.4 percent to 104,000 mt, Evraz's Nizhny Tagil Iron and Steel Works registered a drop of 2.9 percent to 291,000 mt, Metalloinvet's Oskol Metallurgical Plant (OEMK) saw a decrease of 3.9 percent to 240,000 mt, and Ural Steel, another subsidiary of Metalloinvest, saw a reduction of 11.3 percent to 201,000 mt.
