The Russian steelmaking company Abinsk Electric Steel Works Ltd has successfully commissioned a new rebar rolling mill, supplied by the German plantmaking group SMS Group's subsidiary SMS Meer.

The mill of Abinsk Electric Steel Works will have an annual output of 500,000 mt of rebar. Its design also allows the future addition of a VCC® facility (vertical compact coiler) for the production of coils.

The new facility will enable Abinsk to guarantee better product quality. Thanks to the new inline cooling section for bar tempering, the finished products it manufactures exceed corresponding Russian quality standards. The new facility also sets new standards for productivity. It is capable of producing 44 m of rebar per second, which is 10 percent more than with regular systems  - thanks to the HSD®-system (high speed delivery) developed by SMS Meer.
