Swedish steel manufacturer SSAB has announced that Russian miner Pavlovskgranit has had positive results in its testing of Hardox® 500, an abrasion-resistant steel produced by SSAB.

According to a SSAB statement, in order to compare Hardox 500 against the steel it already uses, Pavlovskgranit lined one chute wall of its secondary crusher with SSAB's advanced steel plate.

"The plate wear is minimal," said Petrov Sergey, chief engineer at Pavlovskgranit, of SSAB's Hardox 500. "The other wall in the same chute was made of our regular steel and it was totally worn at the end of this period," he added.

According to Mikhail Dyakov, SSAB regional sales manager, if Pavlovskgranit uses Hardox 500 in all its chutes the company will save more than €100,000 and extend the lifetime of its chutes by five times.
