Russia may limit scrap exports

The Russian Prime Minister Victor Zybkov has announced that his government is preparing measures for the limitation of scrap exports.

On April 9, during a visit to Stupensk Metallurgical Plant where the development of special steel and alloy steel production was discussed, Mr. Zybkov requested the development of special measures so that "valuable raw material will not be exported from Russia."

Deputy Head of the Russian Federation's Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT), Mr. Aldrey Belousov, confirmed that the MEDT is currently considering possible measures for the limitation of scrap exports. One of the possibilities may include an increase in the current scrap export duty, which could be introduced within three-to-four months' time, Mr. Belousov stated.
