According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal State Statistics Service, in the first nine months of this year Russia produced 43 million metric tons of finished steel products - up 12.7 percent, 6.5 million metric tons of steel pipes - up 38 percent, and 36.1 million metric tons of pig iron - up 13.5 percent, all compared to January-September 2009.
In addition, in January-September this year, the country registered an 8.4 percent increase in its coal mining output and a 13.3 percent rise in its iron ore concentrate output year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 231 million and 70.9 million. In addition, Russia produced 27.9 million metric tons of iron ore pellets (oxidized) in the period in question - up 16.5 percent, and 20.4 million metric tons of metallurgical coke - up 14.5 percent, both compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, in September this year, Russia's finished steel production as well as its pig iron output went down by 0.8 percent, while its pipe production increased by 9.8 percent, all compared to August.
In September, Russia's coal output went up by 4.2 percent month on month, its metallurgical coke production increased by 7.8 percent, while its iron ore concentrate output decreased by 6.8 percent and its iron ore pellet output went down by 4.8 percent, all compared to August this year.
