According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal State Statistics Service, in 2010
Russia produced 57.8 million metric tons of finished steel products - up 10.1 percent, 9.1 million metric tons of steel pipes - up 35.8 percent, and 48.2 million metric tons of
pig iron - up 9.3 percent, all compared to 2009.
In addition, in 2010, the country registered a 5.4 percent increase in its coal
mining output and a 10.8 percent rise in its
iron ore concentrate output year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 317 million and 95.5 million.
Russia's 2010 output of metallurgical coke went up by 9.9 percent year on year to 27 million mt.
According to the data issued by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), in 2010
Russia produced 67 million metric tons of
crude steel - up 11.7 percent compared to 2009, retaining fourth place among the world's largest steel producing countries, after China, Japan and the US.
Russia's share in world
crude steel production in 2010 amounted to 4.7 percent, down from 4.9 percent in 2009.
