Australian mining giant Rio Tinto has announced the recommissioning of its Car Dumper 2 at Cape Lambert iron ore port in Western Australia and the resumption of full operations at the port.

The recovery of the rail car dumper, which had been shut since an air compressor car got jammed in the dumper on August 31, 2008, was achieved well ahead of schedule.

Following a series of tests, safety checks and a progressive ramp-up, the dumper has resumed working at full capacity and has already unloaded several trains.

The twin-cell dumper incurred no significant damage.

Thus, Rio Tinto stated that the force majeure notification of September 3, 2008 has now been terminated.
