The Russian steel producer ESTAR Holding (ESTAR) has announced that in March this year its Rostov-based subsidiary Rostov Electrometallurgical Works (REMZ) produced more than 60,000 mt of billets, almost triple the March 2009 output of 20,100 mt.
Since the beginning of this year, REMZ has been steadily increasing its output on the back of the improved market conditions. In January this year, REMZ produced 39,000 mt of billets, while in February its output increased to 44,000 mt. Thus, REMZ's billet output for the first quarter this year was about 143,600 mt, up 20 percent year on year.
In 2009, REMZ produced about 383,000 mt of billet. Commissioned in 2008, REMZ has an annual capacity of 730,000 mt of billets.
