A Minas Gerais state environmental authority said this week Anglo American’s Minas-Rio licensing is valid, despite a public lawsuit filed by state prosecutors, SteelOrbis has learned.
On March 3, state prosecutors filed a request to annul licensing for the company’s Minas-Rio 529kmlong (328milelong) pellet feed-transporting slurry pipeline project, on claims the document didn’t follow recent dam break laws.
Semad, the Minas Gerais regulator, told Reuters the licensing for the Minas-Rio project is valid and fully compliant with local regulations. Anglo American received a final license to operate its Minas-Rio project in Brazil in December 2019, as part of the company’s phase 3 project.
