Qatar Steel Company (Qasco) announced plans to invest QAR 20 million (approx. $5.5 million) to establish a state-of-the-art rebar fabrication unit at its existing plant at the Mesaieed Industrial City. The new unit, which will be designed to have an annual production capacity of 240,000 mts, is expected to start commercial production by the fourth quarter of 2006. A feasibility study conducted by Qasco indicated that rebar demand has increased significantly in recent years due to construction activities. Sheikh Nasser Hamad al-Thani, Director and General Manager of Qasco, recently concluded and signed contracts for the supply of machinery with leading manufacturers of Europe.
