Possible union change for AK Steel employees

A July 25 – 28 election held by the National Labor Relations Board will determine if the locked-out Middletown employees will remain with the Armco Employees Independent Federation (AEIF) or switch union affiliation to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers or the United Steel Workers. Employees who were with the Middletown plant during lockout are eligible to vote on which union will be representing them. After the March 1st lockout of 2,300 employees at the Middletown, OH plant, AK Steel is still operating the mill with approximately 1,500 salaried employees and replacement workers.
