According to a report released by Poland's Automotive Market Research Institute (SAMAR), in 2009 Poland's production of passenger cars and commercial vehicles saw a decrease of 9.21 percent or 91,245 units compared to 2008. The total number of cars produced in 2009 reached 899,737 units, similar to the result for 2007. It should be noted that from October 2009 the level of production showed an increase compared to the corresponding months of the previous year with a steady percentage rate growth every month.
In 2009, passenger cars constituted 92.62 percent of Poland's total annual motor vehicle output, compared to 87.2 percent a year earlier. Production of passenger cars in December 2009 amounted to 65,627 units, decreasing by about 13.36 percent month on month and up 33.89 percent year on year. The country's passenger car exports in 2009 totaled 816,531 units, with a decline of three percent over the previous year. Only 2.01 percent or 16,783 units of car production in Poland went to the local market, while in 2008 the percentage was 2.58 percent.
Polish production of commercial vehicles amounted to 6,906 units in December 2009, down 16.6 percent over November last year, but up 13.9 percent year on year. 96.99 percent of commercial vehicles, i.e., 64,423 units produced in 2009 in Poland have been exported and only 3.19 percent of the total output or 2,118 units have been sold in the local market. In 2008 the percentages of sales held by the export and local markets stood at 96.49 percent and 3.51 percent respectively.
