With the beginning of the new EU quota period between July 1 and September 30, over 60 percent of the import quotas for some steel products have been used up as of July 4, especially by China. It appears some of the product quotas allocated to China will be exhausted when the tonnages waiting at ports are given customs clearance.
The tonnage of sheet piling imported from China, which is currently waiting at customs, is above the quota volumes of 6,986 mt allocated for the country. 91.37 percent of the 110,725 mt tin mill products quota allocated for China has been used up and 101,174 mt of the given products are waiting at EU ports. China has exhausted 84.94 percent and 62.81 percent of its electrical sheets and non-alloy and other alloy merchant bars and light sections quotas of 30,884 mt and 140,020 mt, respectively. 26,232 mt and 87,951 mt of the given products respectively imported from China are waiting for custom clearance.
Turkey has used 62.82 percent of its 20,792 mt stainless cold rolled sheets and strips quota and 60.05 percent of its 98,207 mt quota for hollow sections. 13,062 mt of stainless cold rolled sheets and strips and 58,971 mt of hollow sections from Turkey are waiting at EU ports.
Regarding India, the tonnage of stainless bars and light sections imported from India, which is currently waiting at customs, is above the quota volume of 31,677 mt allocated for the country.
