Outotec to supply tailings treatment technology for Swedish iron ore mine

Friday, 16 December 2011 13:39:35 (GMT+3)   |
Finland-based mining and metal manufacturing equipment provider Outotec has announced that it will deliver a technology package for the Swedish mining company Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB (LKAB) for tailings treatment in the Svappavaara iron ore mine located in Sweden.

Outotec will also provide the engineering of the tailings treatment process, as well as installation and services for start-up and training. The new process is expected to become operational in October 2012.

According to the Outotec statement, paste thickening technology is applicable for both ferrous and non-ferrous metals concentrator applications. Paste thickening efficiently separates water from tailings and reduces water consumption of the mine by approximately 10 percent.
