OneSteel re-starts steel producing in Whyalla

According to recent news in the market, Australian steel producer OneSteel has re-started steel production in Whyalla. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, OneSteel's Whyalla plant blast furnace had experienced technical problems caused by a build-up of material inside the blast furnace which disrupted iron flow and caused metal contamination. As a result, company officials had temporarily halted production. Moreover, following this incident, a fire at its Whyalla plant blast furnace caused further damage to the already malfunctioning blast furnace. Consequently, the officials extended the furnace shutdown. However thanks to successful repairs, production at the plant has returned to its normal pace. The closure of the furnace is expected to generate a loss of 80'000 tons of crude steel for the company. Meanwhile, following the start of production, OneSteel also plans to extend the operations at Whyalla SteelWorks from 2020 to at least 2027 with an investment of $250 million.
