OECD unemployment rate stable at 5.9 percent in May

In May this year, the unemployment rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries remained stable at 5.9 percent compared to April, according to new figures published by the OECD. The number of unemployed in the OECD region in April was 36.8 million people, 4.1 million more than before the crisis in April 2008.

In May, the unemployment rate for the euro area was at 9.3 percent, stable month on month. In the given month, the unemployment rate increased by 0.3 percentage points in Japan to 3.1 percent, increased by 0.1 percentage point in Canada to 6.6 percent, fell by 0.4 percentage points in South Korea to 3.6 percent, declined 0.1 percentage point in Mexico to 3.5 percent and decreased by 0.1 percentage point in the US to 4.3 percent, all compared to April.
