OECD unemployment rate stable at 5.2 percent in October

In October this year, the unemployment rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries remained stable at 5.2 percent compared to September, according to new figures published by the OECD. The number of unemployed in the OECD region in October was 33.2 million people, three percent less than the January 2013 peak.

In October, the unemployment rate for the euro area was at 8.1 percent, remaining unchanged for the fourth month in a row. In the given month, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.3 percentage points in Lithuania to 6.3 percent, by 0.1 percentage point in Canada to 5.8 percent, it decreased in South Korea to 3.9 percent and in Mexico to 3.2 percent and increased by 0.3 percentage points in Italy to 10.6 percent and by 0.1 percentage point in Japan to 2.4 percent, while remaining stable in the US at 3.7 percent, all compared to September.
