Prosecutors in Nanjing have recently announced that Liao Donghai, vice manager of the second iron works of Chinese steelmaker Nanjing Iron and Steel United Co. (NISCO), is under investigation for corruption charges. He is accused of graft alleged to have been committed during the 2009-15 period. Feng Guangshun, assistant manager of the supply department at Nanjing Iron and Steel United Co., is also facing corruption charges.

Meanwhile, in March this year, Cui Jian, vice president of China's Baosteel Group, was investigated for corruption, as was the chairman of state-owned Jiuquan Iron & Steel Group in the month of May this year. Additionally, in August of the current year China’s anti-corruption watchdog also started investigating Deng Qilin, former chairman of Wuhan Iron and Steel, for serious violations of discipline.

Chinese president Xi Jinping has been conducting an anti-graft campaign, also covering the steel industry, since he took power in 2013.
