Nippon Steel starts tests production at new hot rolling line in Nagoya

According to Japan-based steel producer Nippon Steel, the company has commenced production tests at its next-generation hot rolling line at Nagoya Works as of April 1, 2026.

The producer stated that, since construction began in May 2022, the project has progressed through foundation work, building construction, equipment installation, and the commissioning of individual units.

According to Nippon Steel, the new hot rolling line at Nagoya Works will have an annual production capacity of approximately 6 million mt, with a total investment of about JPY 270 billion.

The company noted that commercial production is scheduled to begin in August 2026, while the current hot rolling line is planned to be shut down during fiscal year 2026.
