Germany-based plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that the 150 mt VOD (vacuum oxygen decarburisation) facility by supplied Germany's SMS Mevac was put into operation at China-based Fujian Fuxin Special Steel, part of Formosa Plastics Corporation, last month. The commissioning of the new VOD facility followed the successful start-up of the stainless steel melt shop of Fujian Fuxin in Zhangzhou. The VOD facility represents the extension phase of the melt shop.
During the next few months, the VOD unit will be ramped up. It is planned to produce particularly high-quality low-carbon ferritic stainless steels and superferritic stainless steels.
