New orders in German building construction up 4.4% in 2011

As reported by the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the total price-adjusted value of orders received by building construction and civil and underground engineering enterprises in Germany increased by 4.4 percent in 2011 compared to the previous year.
 
In 2011, building construction demand increased by 9.3 percent, while demand in civil and underground engineering was down by 0.6 percent, both on year-on-year basis. The total turnover in building construction amounted in 2011 to around €93.4 billion, increasing by around 12.5 percent compared to 2010.
 
Meanwhile, in December 2011 the total price-adjusted value of orders in the construction industry increased by 14.1 percent over the corresponding month of the previous year. In December, the total turnover of the German construction industry amounted to approximately €9.4 billion, with an increase of 24.6 percent over the same month of 2010.
