In the January-April period of the current year, China produced 238.78 million mt of pig iron, down 1.2 percent year on year, while also producing 288.97 million mt of crude steel and 337.34 million mt of finished steel, both rising by 5.0 percent year on year, as announced by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on May 15.

In April alone, China produced 63.11 million mt of pig iron, down 0.4 percent year on year, while also producing 76.7 million mt of crude steel and 92.27 million mt of finished steel, up 4.8 percent and 8.5 percent year on year, respectively.

In April, daily outputs of crude steel, pig iron and finished steel in China amounted to 2.5567 million mt, 2.1037 million mt and 3.0757 million mt, up 7.13 percent, 7.86 percent and 6.21 percent, month on month, respectively. China’s daily crude steel output in April surged to its highest historical level as Chinese steelmakers have been seeking to step up production and take advantage of high profitability after the winter output restrictions.
