Molybdenum ore import surges at Tianjin Port

According to Tianjin Customs, molybdenum ore import at Tianjin Port reached 9'802 tons with $290 million trade value through January-August 2005, up 4.2-fold and 14.5-fold over that of the same period the previous year. Molybdenum ore imports from Chile and Peru in the first eight months accounted for 60 percent of total imports with 5'877 tons, up 13.3-fold year on year. China's domestic molybdenum ore supply fell short by 30'000 tons due to a mine disaster in Liaoning Puxin. Tianjin Port has also imported $1.42 billion worth iron ore and iron ore concentrate during the first eight months of the year. Molybdenum ore is mainly used in smelting special steel.
