Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it has completed the reconstruction of its blast furnace (BF) No. 1, originally constructed in 1932. The last major revamp at the furnace took place in 1998.

According to MMK, total investment in the project amounted to RUB 5.4 billion ($86.7 million). In the course of the reconstruction, the blast furnace has been technically re-equipped, involving the dismantling and complete replacement of all elements of the old furnace. The new equipment will significantly reduce the burden on the environment. The furnace is expected to reach an annual production capacity of 1.4 million mt.
