The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it has mastered the production of the new CS1018 steel grade, developed on the basis of the American ASTM A1018 standard, and has begun deliveries of hot rolled steel of the grade in question to Canada.
The new CS1018 steel grade has increased strength, high values of tensile strain, and a high energy absorption capacity. It also yields well to operations of cold molding, while at the same time maintaining its high factor of safety. Due to the absence of expensive alloying elements in its composition, the new steel grade enables MMK to offer competitively to the Canadian market.
MMK has so far delivered to Canada about 19,000 mt of hot rolled steel of 4-12 mm in thickness, for the production of profiles for the construction industry. In addition, the CS1018 steel grade can also be used in the automotive, machine building and bridge building sectors.
Its development of the new CS1018 steel grade has enabled MMK to expand the product range at its flat rolling shop No. 10, and has allowed the company to strengthen its position in North American market.
