The Brazilian state of Minas Gerais will implement a new tool to assess the impact of mining and iron ore activities. Minas Gerais is a key iron ore producing state in Brazil, with a number of iron ore companies including Vale, and steel mills such as Gerdau, Usiminas, among others.

The state plans to hire a consulting company to implement the Strategic Environmental Evaluation (AAE), which will help Minas Gerais evaluate iron ore activity and even demand companies to update conditional environmental documents.

The state will hire a company through a tender, which will in turn produce the AAE analysis in a 24-month timeline.
