Both Mexican car output and domestic sales increased in September, according to the latest figures released by the nation’s automotive industry association, AMIA.

The trade group said car output in September rose 4.1 percent, year-on-year, to 278,781 units, while domestic sales improved 24.9 percent to 111,330 units, in the same basis of comparison. Exports, however, declined 1.7 percent in September, year-on-year, to 216,587 units.

In the cumulative period of January to September, auto production and sales reached 2.5 million and 944,907 units, respectively. The figures are 6.5 and 19.7 percent higher, respectively, when compared to the same period of the year prior.

Despite declining in September, exports still indicate an uptrend when the cumulative numbers of the year are taken into account. AMIA said exports improved 6.7 percent in the January-September period, reaching 2 million units.
