Southern Kuzbass Coal Company, a subsidiary of the Russian mining and steel producing group Mechel, has announced that in the first 10 months of the current year it increased its coal output by 48 percent year on year to 11.7 million mt, including seven million mt of coking coal - up 78 percent year on year.

In October, Southern Kuzbass' coal output amounted to 1.2 million mt, including 635,000 mt of coking coal.

According to the company's release, the growth in coal output was possible due to increased demand and the commissioning of new equipment. "The optimization of the production processes and the complex and large-scale program for development and modernization of our facilities have allowed us to reach the pre-crisis level of production," Southern Kuzbass said.
