The Russian mining and steel producing group Mechel has announced the commissioning of a new reinforcement steel production line at its Romania-based facility Mechel Targoviste.

The new line, which was supplied by Italian equipment manufacturer Schnell, will produce inserts ("joist webs") used to manufacture apertures of doors and windows, to bind reinforcement structures together, and to strengthen bearing structures; as well as producing the welded frames necessary to create bearing concrete columns and other construction frames. The production capacity of the new line is 1,000 mt of shaped steel per month with potential for a significant increase in output.

The project investment amounted to €1 million.

With the new line in place, Mechel continues to strengthen its position in the Eastern European steel market.
