Mechel launches blooming concaster at Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant

Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and metals companies, has launched the blooming concaster No. 5 at Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant's oxygen converter shop.
 
The new concaster No. 5 with an annual capacity of one million mt can produce 200 mm x 200 mm and 300 mm x 360 mm billets from various types of steel, including carbon, structural and alloyed steels. It will supply top-quality continuously-cast billets for the plant's rolling mill.
                                         
The concaster No. 5 is part of a complex which produces rail steel and rail billets. The investment for the complex, including the blooming concaster No. 5, the ladle furnace No. 4 and the vacuum degasser is estimated at $189 million dollars.
