In September this year, manganese ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland decreased 55,1 percent month on month and were down 34.5 percent year on year, totaling 106,100 metric tons, according to Port Hedland Port Authority.
According to the released information, manganese ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 47,250 metric tons in September, decreasing by 61.8 percent year on year and down 80 percent as compared to August. In September this year, manganese ore exports to China accounted for 44.5 percent of total manganese ore exports from Port Hedland, compared to 76.3 percent in September 2010.
Ukraine was the second biggest export destination for manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland in September, with shipments totaling 58,850 metric tons. According to the port authority, no manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland to Ukraine had been recorded in August this year, nor in September last year.
Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Fortescue Metals Group and Atlas Manganese in the manganese ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
