Malaysia not to increase import duty for HRC

The Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry has published the preliminary results of its investigation regarding imports of hot rolled coils, determining that there will be no increases in the existing import duty of 25 percent for HRC.

The investigation on the imports of HRC was initiated on May 1, 2011 upon the request of Malaysian flat steel producer Megasteel Sdn Bhd, asking for a 35 percent import tax for HRC imports. After the investigation, the government found out that HRC imports into Malaysia had increased by 35 percent; however, it concluded that this increase has not posed any serious threat or injury to the domestic industry.
