According to media reports, Liberty Steel Group, part of the GFG Alliance, has temporarily halted liquid steel production at its Rotherham meltshop in South Yorkshire, UK, for three weeks as of April 9 due to a decline in customer demand amid the coronavirus outbreak. About 200 employees working at the meltshop representing almost a quarter of the company’s total Rotherham workforce have already been on provisional paid vacation during this period.

However, the company will continue its downstream operations including rolling mill operations and product shipments.

The Rotherham meltshop has around 1.3 million mt of liquid steelmaking capacity.
