According to the data released by the Republic of
Kazakhstan's Agency of Statistics, in the first two months of 2009 the country registered an 18.5 percent decrease in its crude steel
production, a 4.8 percent decrease in its
production of flat rolled steel (including a 37 percent decline in
tinplate), and a 41.5 percent decrease in its ferroalloys
production, all compared to the data for January-February 2008.
The respective figures in metric tons were 560,393, 464,948 (including 20,658 for
tinplate), and 166,063.
