Turkish integrated steelmaker Kardemir has announced that it has stepped up its R&D activities to produce steel grades demanded by the automotive industry.
Turkey’s Ministry of Industry and Technology recently stated that the prototype of Turkey’s first indigenous car will be ready by the end of this year and will hit the roads in 2022, adding that this project will bring changes in every sector.
Hüseyin Soykan, general manager of Kardemir, said that the company has established a working group for the automotive industry, as they did for the defense industry, to examine which products it can procure for the automotive industry and what it can do to produce steel grades that are and will be required in the future for the automotive industry.
“We are currently supplying steel bars and coil bars to the automotive supply industry. We are also working with a global producer operating in our country in high carbon steel grades which are used in manufacturing tire cord for automobiles. In the coming period, we will be offering high silicon-added steel grades in coil form for suspension spring production,” Mr. Soykan stated.
