Kardemir signs supply contract with domestic iron ore miner

Turkish steel producer Kardemir, which is a major consumer of coal and iron ore in Turkey, has announced that it has signed a supply contract with domestic miner Özkoyuncu Madencilik for 2019.

According to the contract, Özkoyuncu Madencilik will supply 900,000 mt of iron ore to Kardemir this year. Signing the contract on behalf of Kardemir, the company’s executive board chairman Kamil Güleç stated that Kardemir’s priority in terms of coal and iron ore supply is to meet its requirement from the domestic market, with 70 percent of Kardemir’s annual iron ore consumption, which is over 3 million mt, being supplied from Kayseri, Sivas, Kırıkkale, Balıkesir, Bingöl, Erzincan, Elazığ and Malatya.

Mr. Güleç state that Kardemir’s consumption of coal and iron will rise in line with its increased production in the coming period.
