JSPL wins tender to supply rails to Indian Railways

Indian steelmaker Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) has won 20 percent of the INR 25 billion global tender held by Indian state-run transporter Indian Railways (IR) for supply of steel rails, according to Indian media reports.

Accordingly, JSPL will supply nearly 100,000 mt of rails to Indian Railways over a period of one year.

Apart from JSPL, seven global companies, including Sumitomo Corporation, Angang Group International, Voestalpine Schienen, East Metal, CRM Hong Kong, Atlantic Steel and British Steel France Rail, participated in the tender. JSPL is the only private sector manufacturer of rails in India with the capability to manufacture head-hardened rails.
